Staffing Industry M&A Activity Surges in Professional Staffing

Three very large acquisitions in the staffing industry have occurred in a relatively short period of time.

Just a few months ago Adecco announced the $1.3 billion deal to acquire MPS Group. MPS Group, as many of you may know, has multiple divisions including Modis, their successful IT division, Accounting PrinciContinue

“I don’t do Splits!” … A sign of success or, old-school thinking???

Most recruiters I know, and that majority happens to work for agencies, have a long standing stigma against the idea of “splits”. The split seems to carry with it the idea of concession. Concession of control, ability, success, status, revenue, etc… These are all very valid points given the very simple fact that, when you engage in a split placement, you lose half of your revenue. A recruiters best case scenario is to bring in their own business, fill it themselves and take whatever cut they are… Continue

Using Social Media to Qualify Instead of Disqualify Candidates

As mentioned in an earlier post, Social Media sites should be used in the character reference portion of the background checking phase once you have narrowed down your top 10 or 3 candidates for the position. Avoid using these sites as the only verifying source for your candidate's skills, education and abilities. This would be a smart choice.

Don't Do This Yet

If you are still a little uncertain about using social media, then give yourself a little time to adjust, because at the present momen… Continue

2010 Looking Good For Staffing Industry

The staffing industry has endured arguably one of the worst recessions in the history of the industry this past year.

Many staffing firms have, unfortunately, been forced to close their doors. A 30% (plus) decline across the board in staffing revenue, layoffs, frozen budgets, etc., has nearly ground the industry to a halt. Any staffing firm that was able to replicate year over year revenue had call to celebrate in 2009.

I don't know about you but I'm glad 2009 is coming to an end! 2008 wasn't… Continue

Closing Candidates on your Jobs - Counter-Offers. Dont Risk it!

After having a discussion with a Brisbane Recruiter over the weekend, we ended up on the topic of counter-offers.

This particular Recruiter thought he had made 2 placements last week, but to his surprise, both of them called on Friday afternoon, literally one after the other, to inform him that they had both decided to stay put after their current Employe… Continue

Good Bureau of Labor Stats News Today

The Bureau of Labor Statistics issued its monthly report today and there were a LOT of positive noteworthy changes.

First and foremost, employment in professional and business services ROSE by 86,000 in November. And most of that was due to staffing firms placing temporary workers! So, obviously November was a big month for the staffing industry.

BLS: Temporary help services accounted for the majority of the increase, adding 52,000 jobs. Since July, temporary help services employmentContinue

What sort of Blogs are acceptable on RecruiterTalk?

What sort of Blogs should RecruiterTalk promote?

So here's the skinny...

Blog Topics

Acceptable blogs for RecruiterTalk should be informative pieces that explore topics related to staffing, recruiting, HR, human capital, employment, retention, etc. Topics related to the broad spectrum of employment, staffing… Continue

7 Cold Calling Tips For Recruiters

by Beverly Aarons 30. Leopard Solutions Law Blog November 2009 08:19

Cold calling is a powerful tool for recruiters, especially in economically challenging times. But if you want to maximize the benefits of your cold calls there are few techniques that may be worth trying:

1. Research your cold calling prospects before you pick up the phone. There is nothing worse than getting names and titles wrong unnecessarily.… Continue

Thoughts on the ever-changing workforce and the perception of Hiring Managers

I recently read an article that really got me thinking about changes in the workforce. The article "Special Report on Contingent Staffing" posted on the Workforce Management website ( www.workforce.com ) presents several statistics about the expected increase in use of contingent workers in the coming years. The basic jist of a portion of the article is about the anticipated increase in hiring throughout 2010 and beyond and the fact that many employers who… Continue
